I am writing this to express my regrets over the cancellation of last Saturday’s Cruise-in. I arrived in town at 2:00 pm in anticipation of getting set up for what was intended to be a July 4th Special. Several of my team arrived shortly after I did, and as we began to set up, the rains came. The band arrived and as the rain continued, waited on the weather to clear to avoid ruining their expensive equipment. My team set up our tents and equipment in hopes of the weather clearing. At 4:20 pm, a decision was made to cancel due to the continued rain and the radar forecast of more bad weather headed our way. Additional city personnel are required during our events, and also uptown businesses need to know whether or not to keep extra help on hand for the event, so this is not a decision that I take lightly. As it happened, the weather forecast was wrong, and by 5:00 pm it turned out to be a beautiful evening, but I had made a decision; the city had sent their people home; and my team was also gone, so I had to stand by my decision. I am truly sorry for any inconvenience this caused to my fellow cruisers and spectators, and hope that you understand my position. We look forward to seeing you on July 19.
