The Caldwell County Animal Shelter in Lenoir kills thousands of unclaimed animals in a Carbon Monoxide GAS CHAMBER each year. Your taxes fund it. There is a better way: euthanasia by injection, the same method that is used in vet offices and which could save the county money. Gas chambers are dangerous for shelter workers, and this one has been known to leak hazardous carbon monoxide before. The manufacturer has gone out of business and takes no responsibility for accidents.
If you care about the animals and the animal control staff, please call your county commissioners and ask that the county stop killing animals in the gas chamber. You voted them in office, and they will listen to the concerns of local residents.
